Damage to my home due to the windows.
Background
In August1989 just 4 months after my home was built, a rainstorm caused
considerable damage due to, in part, defective windows installed
in my home. These windows were also installed in hundreds of homes in my
subdivision and in the Houston area. Ryland wrote the
first letter to the homeowners. and after many weeks, we wrote
to Ryland Homes.
Ryland in late August wrote again to the inform
homeowners of the recommended procedure to fix the windows. this procedure
was never performed.
And in late Sept Ryland again wrote to the homeowners.
Upon further testing and evaluation of the General
1100 Series windows, Ryland Homes has concluded that there is a more complete
and effective solution to this problem. They installed "high
quality" storm windows as a more "complete and effective solution".
Yet read the results of the "further testing and
evaluation" they conducted. The engineering studies show nothing close
to a complete and effective solution, in fact it shows the solution did
NOT solve the problem, and COULD cause further damage to the original windows.
These studies were not disclosed to the homeowners and I found them
in mid 1996 in The Ryland Group V. General Aluminum
Corporation Cause NO. 89-053854.

studies performed by Knight Engineering Services
can be viewed in text format or now can be downloed in PDF format.
Below are pictures of my windows after the storm
and 5 years later.
Timeline and and original letters will come soon. You can also read
the
first and second engineering studies.
