The Real Facts About EIFS

- Certified EIFS Inspectors? -

At least one local Long & Foster office has started marketing "stucco" (barrier EIFS) homes as checked by a "certified inspector" and stating that the home is "O.K." Of course, the question that begs to be answered is "certified by whom?" There are no county, state or national bodies that we know of that certifies EIFS inspectors. The only "certification" we know of is that of EDI whose students take a 3-day seminar and, upon completion, are issued EDI badges reading "Certified EIFS Inspector". Amazingly, the students never inspect a home during the course. They are given a "walk-thru" exam in a room with mock walls. Obviously, this "certification" in no way assures a home-owner that the student is competent in the real world, as your home could be the first the student has ever checked. The badges should say "Trained EIFS Inspector". That's why we suggest asking intelligent questions to a perspective inspector.

Editor's Note: As of 7/19/99 I have received a total of (3) complaints from local home-owners about inspectors. All were about an EDI graduate who wears a "Certified EIFS Inspector" badge and sits on the EDI Board of Directors.
