Dear Kora:
Per our telephone conversation, we have received numerous inquiries from local home-owners for information and / or the status of "Coronado Stucco". We would like to get an official statement of position on the issue of barrier EIFS (synthetic stucco) problems from your organization. We have received several anonymous letters that bring up a number of questions and concerns for home-owners that have homes with Coronado-applied EIFS. Please understand that we are acting simply as advocates for home-owners in this matter.
We are in receipt of a letter mailed to home-owners on or about Jan 1., 1999. This letter states "Coronado Corporation" [a.k.a. "Coronado Stucco" or "Coronado Stucco and Stone"] is a defunct, assetless corporation ceasing operations in May of 1997. CSS, L.L.C. opened its doors in June of 1997 and is not a successor corporation and is no way liable for any work, warranties, invoices or the like, that were part of Coronado Corp. CSS L.L.C. will be happy to bid on any repair work. Unfortunately, we are not liable for any installation problems that may be at hand." The letter is signed by Gregory S. Carter, Contract Administrator.
Many of the home-owners who have contacted us (a number of which have moisture-intrusion problems in their homes) assert that CSS, L.L.C. is, in fact, a "reincarnation" of Coronado. Their impression is that Coronado knew of the impending EIFS crisis and closed and re-opened under a new corporate "veil" in order to evade possible liability. If this is indeed the case, it appears to be an illegal act under VA law (and all other states). Understandably, these home-owners are outraged that "the same company that installed our systems [EIFS] has the audacity to come back and offer to repair them".
Please provide your response so that we may address these concerned home-owners. So as to avoid "being in the middle" of this controversy, I will post your response, along with this letter, on our Web site so those who have an interest will have easy access to this information.
Thank you for your attention in this matter.
