The Real Facts About EIFS

- Information from the National Pest Control Association (NPCA) -

The National Pest Control Association (NPCA) - has for several years told its membership, the nations Pest Control Operators (PCO's), not to treat EIFS homes with liquid termiticides because they are untreatable and to consider whether to issue any warranty or contract.  Many PCO's are heeding the advise of NPCA and not issuing contracts on homes with EIFS cladding, and also homes that use rigid foam insulation at or below grade for insulation purposes (common in colder northern climates). Those that chose to treat EIFS homes, or any home that has insulating foam at or below grade,  are advised to discliam the EIFS or foam portion of the home from any warranty or contract coverage.  This is becoming problem for the real estate industry when "clearance" letters are needed for real estate closings.

The International Code Council (ICC), which will be the successor to CABO, BOCA, ICBO & SBCC, has also banned the use of rigid foam insulation below grade in areas of "very heavy" termite infestation in their 1998 International One and Two Family Dwelling Code.  Very heavy termite areas include California, the gulf coast states, and the southeast states of Georgia and South Carolina.
