The Real Facts About EIFS

- EIMA Stratagies and Tactics -

After news of the problems in Wilmington first became public, EIMA assumed a defensive position, blaming the weather and coastal conditions. Very quickly, however, they changed their position to one of attack. They blamed the builders, the applicators, the State and County building codes and even the New Hanover County Inspections Department. EIMA even had no problem taking out full-page newspaper ads saying so. Yet, when their competitors get aggressive, they cry foul:

"EIMA members were particularly incensed by a barrage of ads aired on Dallas, Texas, TV stations in late January to coincide with the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) annual show, attended by 65,000 builders. The ads reportedly featured Niki Lee Hurst, with shots of workers ripping off the EIFS siding on her house. A following sequence showed her home reclad with brick and touted its superiority over EIFS." - EIMA

These claims remain to this day. But EIMA has since expanded their target list. EIMA is now on the offensive against all manufacturers of traditional-cladding cladding systems. Currently on EIMA's site you can read BACK-PRIME OR BEWARE: CEDAR SIDING CAN STRIKE BACK. EIMA uses semantical games to infer that the same problems they have happen with the other systems. And now, they taken the final offensive step. They now blame the Home-owners:

"In other instances the contractors did their jobs well, but the homeowners did not follow up on routine maintenance of caulk beads around these openings." - Official EIMA Website

So, if they can't pin it on a builder who did a good job, or on the applicator that an EIMA manufacturer trained and certified, they can just blame the home-owner for neglecting the frequent and diligent maintenance required on a product that was sold to them as "virtually maintenance free".
