- EIMA Reverses Its Position on Barrier EIFS -

U.S. Gypsum sent out a press release in mid-January indicating that EIMA has apparently changed its mind and is no longer recommending the use of barrier systems in single-family residential construction. Read a press release here. At this time (03/21) there is still nothing on the EIMA web site about it. EIMA has decided not to even talk about it. There was also an article, EIMA Changes Position on Drainage EIFS, in the April 1999 edition of The Construction Specifier.

We have subsequently confirmed this via phone with EIMA. All of the EIMA manufacturers are following suit. We called the local buiding industry association (Northern Virginia Building Industry Association). They told us that they are following suit as well, stating that "all of our builders are only using water-managed systems". We'll see.
